Standing in Forgiveness
Today is Good Friday, the day on which we remember our Lord’s death on the cross. Watching him die, Jesus’ enemies mocked him and said, “Save yourself!” Jesus did not save himself. He died to save his enemies, and he died to save us. He suffered and died for the sins of the world. This sad day is a day that is for us very good.

    Standing in Faith
Today we remember Jesus’ celebration of the Passover with his disciples, his prayer in Gethsemane and his betrayal and arrest. We are one body in Christ, and as we partake of his holy meal we remember and proclaim his redeeming death until he comes again. Come, Lord Jesus.

    Standing in Humility
The crowds on Palm Sunday welcomed Jesus, waving palm branches and shouting, “Hosanna!” That word means “Save us now!” and soon Jesus would do just that. Today we welcome our Savior and celebrate the salvation he won for us through his death and resurrection. From our humble King we learn to live in humility towards one another.

    Standing in Truth
Today we will see how the Roman governor Pilate questioned Jesus about his kingdom. Jesus answered that his kingdom is not of this world and that he came to bear witness to the truth. Pilate asked, “What is truth?” He did not know that the Truth stood before him in the flesh.

    Standing Through Persecution
Jesus was rejected, betrayed, deserted by his friends and arrested. He was unjustly tried and condemned to death, yet he willingly endured it all to save us. As we stand at the cross together, we pray that we will be bold witnesses for our Savior so that others will come to know and worship him as Lord.

The call of every Christian is to live beyond themselves.  We are to share the hope that we have with the world.  When some lepers stumble into an Aramean camp that has been emptied by God, and when they find all sorts of treasure there, they cannot help but share the good news of the treasure with their neighbors.  How can we do anything less than share the good news of the gospel with our neighbors?

When Jesus celebrates the Passover with His disciples the night before He dies, it becomes more than a Passover.  It becomes a promise of His presence.  For in, with, and under simple forms of bread and wine is the Body and Blood of Christ.  Today, we consider the Passover and how Jesus’ death on a cross leads God to not merely pass-over our sins, but to forgive them!

In the last chapter of Matthew, Jesus calls us to make disciples in two ways: by teaching His Word and by baptizing in His name (Matthew 28:19-20). The Ethiopian eunuch became a disciple by being baptized. Jesus still makes disciples in baptism today!  What a gracious and wonderful gift our Lord gives us in Baptism.

    Who Turned Off the Lights
    Series: (All)
The journey of a disciple of Jesus may take many directions. As one of the first men called to discipleship by the Lord, Peter found that his world was turned around and changed forever. And yet, in following the Lord, he found a peace that passed all understanding. In the final words of his second epistle, he wrote to his Christian flock, “Therefore, beloved . . . be . . . at peace” (2 Peter 3:14). The people of God are peaceable people through whom the Spirit works, fashioning them as peacemakers and peace-bringers to a world in need of the peace that is in Christ alone.
