Every single phrase of The Lord’s Prayer connects us to God’s answers to the things that concern us the most. We will take a closer look at the Lord’s Prayer and what it means to be connected to God and to one another – restoring hope in these uncertain times.

July 11: The Prayer of Connection
God is a person, not a power. You can connect and relate to Him personally because He is our Heavenly Father. But the word “father” can bring up all kinds of bad connotations, hurts, difficulties, and experiences. As a result of our earthly fathers’ fallibility, we may think of God the same way. In this message we explore four characteristics of God as Father, using The Lord’s Prayer, that will help you see God for who He really is. Phrase: “Our Father who are in heaven, hallowed be thy name”

July 18: The Prayer of Surrender
The second and third petitions of the Lord’s Prayer, “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven,” form a prayer of surrender. Today we will learn four ways that surrender is the solution to stress.

July 25: The Prayer of Dependence
“Give us this day our daily bread” is God’s reminder to us that we are to trust Him to provide for us – every day. In lean times and in times of uncertainty, we should not look to Washington nor to Wall Street to provide for us, but to God. In this petition of the Lord’s prayer we are saying that we trust Him to meet all of our needs – not just bread.

Today we continue in the Lord’s Prayer with “Forgive us our trespasses.” Forgiveness is the greatest tool that God has given mankind for our life together in community with one another and it was modeled to us best in our Lord Jesus’ work on the cross.  Through it we are able to have a fresh start and a clear conscience – both with God and with our fellow humans.

August 22: The Prayer of Release
The Lord’s Prayer continues, “as we forgive those who trespass against us.” Why must we release those who have hurt us? As we consider the story of the unforgiving servant in Matthew 18, we will find out.

Today we focus on the phrase from the Lord’s Prayer, “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” Why do we keep making the same mistakes over and over and doing things we know are bad for us? The reality is that good intentions are never good enough. To break free from our temptations and bad patterns we need more than good intentions. Today we will learn how to break through our most common temptations and avoid the traps the evil one sets for us.

September 5: The Prayer of Fulfillment
Today we conclude our series on the Lord’s Prayer looking at the last phrase, “For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.” What do the words kingdom, power, and glory mean and how do we apply them in our lives? We will discover this as we explore how we fulfill God’s purpose in His kingdom, by His power, and for His glory.
