Birthday Group

Hacienda de Vega was the scene of our gathering to celebrate the birthdays of Jo Brandt, Erika Burke, Ann Doering and Paul Lahr, as well as fellowship with one another.  The restaurant serves delectable cheesecake to its patrons who are celebrating birthdays and there was plenty to share.  We all agree that the burrito is the largest we have ever seen in any restaurant.

We are celebrating the birthdays of Faye Bacon and Bill Barnes on THURSDAY, November 8 at 11:30 a.m. at Dini’s Bistro, 3290 Carlsbad Boulevard (parking in the rear of the restaurant).  Lunches range in price from eight to fifteen ($8-15) dollars.  In addition to your lunch, we request a one dollar contribution per celebrant which will go to Solutions for Change.

Everyone is welcome to join us but you do need a reservation with the Birthday Coordinator, Jo Voertman, jvbythesea@cox.net, 760-721-6674.

Two Tables Bridge Group

Bridge play for 2018 was at the home of Alice Lehmann with a twist at the final play in 2018.  We met on Friday, October 26th, at 11:00 AM for snacks but we also had dessert and coffee, a real treat, and Buck was happy to have his serving, too!
It was a gorgeous autumn day and if there was a negative (which there was) we were shy one player so ‘Dummy’ took over and was low scorer.  High Scorer was Audrey Wickstrand and Second High was Ruth Russell, who is also a newcomer to our group. Congratulations to both winners!
Bridge play will continue on the fourth Friday of each month at 11:00 AM, beginning on January 25, 2019!  I can hardly believe that I make this announcement for 2019!  Time is elusive and every day I thank God that in His wisdom He gives us one day at a time to live; we know not what the morrow will bring but we know God is in control.
Thanks be to God!

If you are a bridge player and would like to play or be a substitute please let me know with an email message: baconfaye3@gmail.com or a phone call:  760-707-6677. We will be happy to share time with you over the bridge table.
Between now and the New Year, 2019, I wish you all a thankful Thanksgiving, A Blessed Christmas and a Most Happy and Healthy New Year!

Election Reminder!

Five Duties for all Christians: 1. Pray that God will send a great spiritual awakening to America, that many millions of our citizens will receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, and that Christians will dedicate themselves to God for spiritual living and active service within the family, the church, and the nation 2. Be registered as a qualified voter so you can practice your citizenship with accountability to God. 3. Become Informed Organize and lead or participate in a study group to inform yourself and others concerning the structure of government, current political problems and issues, and how to serve God effectively in the political arena at your level of influence. 4. Help Elect Godly People Help select and elect men and women of God to public office at the local, state, and national levels. Support them faithfully throughout their terms of public service by lovingly sharing with them the biblical views on issues, praying for them, and encouraging them. 5. Vote consistently in every election, after becoming informed about the various candidates and issues, and evaluating them on the basis of the Word of God

Sunday School News

During the month of November, the PreK & K children will learn about Daniel and his friends. Children face may new and sometimes frightening experiences each day. They may feel alone and afraid – in their own “lion’s den”, however, they will learn that through prayer, they can talk with God and give him their worries.

Grades 1 & 2 will study about Friendship and how God calls us to make friends. God wants us to depend on each other, love each other, comfort each other and rejoice with each other. These relationships pattern what God wants to have with us.

Grades 3 & 4 will study Daniel’s Adventures. Like Daniel, kids today are surrounded by influences that entice them away from God. They feel pressured to have the latest and greatest toys, clothes, shoes, etc. Peers may encourage them to use bad language and hang out with the wrong crowd. These lessons will give kids faith in our powerful God and confidence to face life’s difficulties.

Church Council Elections 2018

In December we elect new leaders to serve on the Council. Please consider the call to be a part of Redeemer by the Sea leadership. It is an important time to step forward as we look at the ways our church can lead people to Christ and into discipleship with Him.
Contact Melanie Burkholder, mburkholder06@gmail.com or Kris Urdahl, president@redeemerbythesea.org, with questions desire to serve.

Redeemer Children’s Choir

Sunday School News

During the month of October,  the PreK & K children will learn about the friendship between David and Jonathan found in 1 Samuel.  This will teach the children how friends take care of each other, stick by each other and help one another  just as God cares for, helps and loves each of us. Grades 1 & 2 will study about David’s life before his amazing kingship began.  These lessons will teach them to recognize that God will provide a way for them to meet challenges they will face every day. Grades 3 & 4 will study Esther:  The Courageous Queen.  Her story shows that courage isn’t a lack of fear; it’s doing the right thing despite our fears and trusting God with the outcome.  The will learn that God has a purpose for everything and that we can trust God to give us the courage to do what’s right. Until next time, keep serving the Lord…Miss Rhonda, Sunday School Director

Mission Minute

Last month, your Mission Fund contribution was awarded to Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM), which is a trusted expert in global media that equips and engages a vibrant volunteer base to passionately proclaim the Gospel to more than 100 million people worldwide each week. Through its North American headquarters and 34 ministry centers on six continents, LHM reaches into more than 50 countries, often bringing Christ to places where no other Christian evangelistic organizations are present. LHM’s flagship ministry, The Lutheran Hour®, airs weekly on more than 1,800 radio stations and the American Forces Network. LHM encourage those people who are reached through these ministry efforts to respond by contacting staff or volunteers. LHM then cultivates relationships with those who respond to ultimately facilitate a relationship between them and a Christian community, thus helping grow the kingdom of God. On behalf of Lutheran Hour Ministries, thank you for your Mission Fund contribution, -Linda Staehr, RBTS Missions & Evangelism Chair

Free to Be Faithful

Between 55 and 60 million innocent lives have been lost over the years since Roe v Wade. Same sex marriages are now affirmed by law accompanied by the threats that those who do not affirm this ‘new reality’ could lose and have lost jobs, freedoms and more. Constitutional rights of religion protected by the 1st Amendment are under constant attack by some in and out of government. What is the answer to reversing the trend of making laws that go against God’s Law and appointing judges that uphold these decisions? Elect God fearing men and women who have the religious and moral courage to stand against these attacks. The Salt & Light group believes that it is a Christian’s responsibility to know the biblical issues of the day; what the candidates have said or done on those issues; vote accordingly. To that end the Salt & Light group will be hosting 2 presentations based on the dvd “Anthem for a Nation” on Sunday, Oct 14 and “The Biblical Case for Cultural Engagement” on Oct 28. Both presentations will take place from 9:45 – 10:45 am in the Fellowship Hall. In addition we offer this prayer;

Heavenly Father, we bring the needs of our government before You and ask You to bless our nation through Godly leaders. We ask that for our President and his Cabinet, Justices of the Supreme Court, members of the Senate and House of Representatives, and all elected officials of the state and municipalities, that they receive wisdom from You to act in obedience to that wisdom and for the power of God to flow in their lives. We ask this is Jesus name. Amen

Two Tables Bridge Group

September 28, 2018, the day we met to play bridge at the home of Arlyn Schmad will live in infamy. We have (8) Players almost every month but on this day we had (5 ) regular Players and the best man, Bill Barnes, who stepped up to the plate and joined us as Player #6. Drastic measures call for quick compromises!

While the 4 Players played 4 hands of bridge, 2 found pleasure playing “King’s Corner” and this was repeated. High Scorer for Bridge was Arlyn Schmad and second high was Alice Lehmann.
If you are a bridge player and would enjoy spending one afternoon every month at a bridge table we invite you to join us for dessert, beverage and bridge. We meet in members homes on the 4th Friday of each month with the exception of December. Please let me know by calling: 760-707-6677 or email: baconfaye3@gmail.com
I look forward to hearing from you.
Faye Bacon,
Bridge Coordinator at RBTS.

What I Love About Redeemer – October

From the little ones learning about the handiwork of God’s creation and all the animals on Noah’s Ark (the picture to the left is a project that the pre-K through 4th grade Sunday School kids worked on this summer) …  to the high school students enjoying an overnight lock-in at church and discussing the nuances of loving your neighbor in the way that Christ intended … there’s a unifying theme:  The Truth of God’s Word experienced in a personal way with friends and peers at your side along the journey. At Redeemer, we’re relational.  This is an important aspect of our ministry.  It means to us that people matter and relationships matter.  They matter to God.  When God created the first human being, He said, “It is not good for the man to be alone.” (Genesis 2:18).  Then when man’s sin caused distance between God and mankind, The Father sent His Son Jesus into the world to suffer and die so that we would once again be restored in our relationship with God (Romans 5:10) – as well as in our relationships with one another (2 Corinthians 13:11). Though this restoration won’t be realized worldwide until our Lord returns, at Redeemer we enjoy this restoration and the presence of the Kingdom of God among us now.  It’s a beautiful thing and one of the things I love about Redeemer! I look forward to sharing with you more of what I love about Redeemer.  In the meantime, I encourage you to search through some of the articles, resources, references and links that we provide.  We don’t want to overload you with information, but we do want to help you get connected.  After all – you have a million places that you can get information … but we want to help you get connected to God, to His Family, and to His Purpose for your Life.  We call that WORSHIP – GROW – and SERVE.  That’s what we’re doing at Redeemer … and I love it! And I’d love for you to join us.   If I can answer any questions you might have or be of assistance in any way just let me know!  I’d love to chat with you. May the Lord bless and keep you! Pastor Augie

Birthday Group

THURSDAY, September 6 was a warm, sunny day and we celebrated the birthdays of Suzanne Hanthorn and Bettye and Don Howard at Mimi’s Café.  We all got into the restaurant despite the fact that the parking lot was being repaved.  The birthday celebrants were treated with a strawberry/blueberry short cake with ice cream that was far too large for any one person, so it was shared with the entire group.  We always share the birthday desserts anyway but this time we had a serious reason.

The meal was finished, dessert served, checks distributed and negotiated and still we stayed on to Fellowship with one another.   It was a lovely day.  We contributed one hundred ($100) dollars to the Concordia Fund at Concordia University – Irvine. We meet again on FRIDAY, October 12 at 11:30 a.m. at Hacienda de Vega, 5806 Van Allen Way in Carlsbad (the corner of College and Faraday) to celebrate the birthdays of Jo Brandt, Erika Burke, Ann Doering and Paul Lahr.  Lunches range from eight ($8) to ($15) dollars. In addition to your lunch, we request a one dollar contribution per celebrant which will go to Shepherd’s Canyon Retreat, an association offering getaway time and counseling to pastors and their spouses. Everyone is welcome to join us but you do need a reservation with the Birthday Coordinator, Jo Voertman, jvbythesea@cox.net, 760-721-6674.

Hiding from God

On Sunday we saw that Adam and Eve went into shame and hiding when they went against God’s command.  In church-terms, we call this “The Fall of mankind.”  What do you do when you fall?  Do you hide from God in shame?  In this message of the GENESIS series, I suggest that there’s a better way … Click HERE to hear the whole message.

Genesis 3:8 “Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.”
